The London Library has introduced an innovative new feature: soundproof ‘Idea Pods’ designed for public creativity and collaboration. Installed on the library’s upper floors, the pods offer a private space for brainstorming, podcast recording, or focused work sessions.

Each pod is equipped with high-speed internet, adjustable lighting, acoustic insulation, and a built-in whiteboard. Users can book them in hourly blocks through the library’s online system.

The project emerged from community feedback during lockdown, when members expressed a need for private, quiet spaces that supported remote work and creative projects.

“It’s not just about books anymore,” said library director Fiona Lang. “Libraries today are evolving into hybrid spaces — we want to support thinking, making, and sharing ideas.”

Writers, students, and content creators have already begun using the pods for diverse projects — from dissertation prep to poetry recordings and startup planning meetings.

The pods were designed by a London-based architecture firm specializing in modular acoustic environments. They’re constructed from sustainably sourced wood and recycled felt materials.

As demand grows, the library plans to expand the program and offer community workshops inside the pods on topics like storytelling, publishing, and audio editing.
